Offensive lineman Matt James, one of the top prospects in new Notre Dame coach Brain Kelly’s first recruiting class, died Friday in Panama City, Fla., after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony, according to WKRC-TV in Cincinnati and the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune.
James, who was won one week shy of his 18th birthday, was vacationing in Florida for spring break.

After a week of appearing in controversial news stories, Tim Tebow has popped up in a more innocuous setting. Last week the Heisman winner was rumored to have been told to “shut the f–k up,” a story that he promptly and thoroughly denied. His old coach, meanwhile, lashed out at a reporter after a Gators receiver was quoted making comments about Tebow that some considered to be unfavorable. (Tebow did not see it that way.)
